I've been watching 'King of the Hill' lately, literally season 1 through 12, and I've come to the realization that not having shins (a la Cotton Hill) must suck. He waddles around, and he's bitter... maybe not about the shins, but I'm sure it doesn't help. How did I come to this conclusion? I'm not really sure. I was running this morning when I had really bad shin splints, which always happens after a day off, and I kept thinking about what would happen if I injured myself so badly that it required surgery... yeah, my mind wanders when I run.
Anyway, today was a pretty crappy run. I got in nice and early on a weekend, way before anyone else goes in, and was planning on running the half marathon. That clearly didn't happen, but what's worse is that I didn't even finish the 5k. Nope, I stopped after a mile. That's how badly my shins were screaming at me. So out of guilt I hopped on the bike and just put my head down and pedaled away for 45 minutes. I did play a couple pick up games of basketball, so it's not as if today was completely wasted... just a bad day for running I guess. The good news is that I'm sort of back to normal weight... 145 pounds even after the workout. You read that right, a 12 pound swing in a span of 24 hours, even I'm surprised this time hahaha.
